I'm a sewer who loves a creative challenge. Give me a remnant, or a piece from an op shop, or even a scrap and I'll figure out what to do with it. I also love to plan a capsule wardrobe. For me made May this year I wore only nine pieces and learned a lot about how to put outfits together and accessorise.  

I've just finished sewing my travel capsule for an upcoming trip to Morocco. I live, work and sew on Gadigal Land,  in Sydney Australia. I started Darlington Stitch club about 18 months ago so sewers can gather free of charge to, chat and sew. 

Local Inspiration

If a fellow creative had a few days to explore the creative side of your city/town, what would be your recommended itinerary?
Include sight-seeing, markets, galleries, shopping, and eating out! 

I happen to live in Sydney's Inner City which (I think) is at the heart of Sydney's creativity. Just down from me is the Carriageworks which hosts exhibitions, markets, theatre and once a week, some social knitting. It's a very cool place to explore because it's been converted from old locomotive workshops.  

The Glebe Markets (held every Saturday) are also a stroll across the park away. The area is filled with coffee shops and restaurants. For a nice night out, my favourite is Ester in Chippendale. For something more relaxed I love Fontana in Redfern.

If you are around on the first Sunday of the month, I'd definitely invite you to @darlington_stitch_club , where a bunch of us meet to sew and chat. I'd also like to call out the Pine St Creative Arts centre run by the city of Sydney. I also need to shout out to @usefulbox sewing school.  

I love to sew garments for me and my family (but if I'm honest mostly me!). My favourite thing is to find something in an op shop and transform it into something I can wear. I love the creative process of thinking how I can use it.

While I'm sewing, I'll usually create stories in my head of the previous owner. I like to think I'm honoring them in some way. I'm also knitting at the moment. Its my way of keeping my hands and mind busy so I stop scrolling on my phone. 

Your favourite recipe to share

My friends will laugh at this question because they know my husband does all the cooking in our house. I do have an old reliable recipe I pull out every now and then. Tomato and ricotta tart. Mix Ricotta (around 250gm) with grated parmesan and basil.

Spread it over a sheet of puff pastry and scatter tomato on the top and bake. If you're feeling fancy you can slow roast roma tomatoes before adding them to the top of the tart. 

Your favourite sewing pattern
What is your all-time favourite sewing pattern and why?

This is a tough question. There are so many good patterns out there. I'm exploring making the basics right now, So the Tessuti Alba Pants are a favourite. I  find the fit in these great and the instructions make the complex process easy.

But I also love the Zadie jumpsuit by @paper_theory. It's a great pattern that will make any beginner sewist feel accomplished.

Can I mention one more? The Mave skirt by @truebias I wear mine all the time. 

Current Projects

What project/s do you have currently on the go?

I've just finished sewing my capsule wardrobe for a month away in Morocco and Istanbul. I've loved thinking through each piece and how all ten pieces will work together. It became a little bit obsessive TBH.

I'm currently making the Georgia Tee as a dress for a family member and a match set (shorts and Shirt) for my husband.
